Marriages in Ancient Egypt:

In ancient Egypt marriage was held as a holy bond. It took place right after the onset of puberty. A bride was young, approximately 14 or 15 years old and the groom no older than 19 or 20 if he was divorced. They were highly encouraged to get the marriage contact young because of the short life spans at that time. Most marriages were arranged but the abundance of some love poetry tells us that some couples did fall in love and chose their mates themselves.
Even though there was no specific wedding ceremony that took place there was though a document that spelled out both the members of the couple.
In most marriages the couple lived at the groom's parents house until they save up enough money to build their own house and run their own family.
There was also a tendency of brother and sister marriages in Ancient Egypt. Brother-sister marriages were done in both rich and poor families.
