Why were ancient Egyptian's perfumes so popular?

Egyptians were known for their perfumes. They were mostly made out of jasmine, iris, roses, henna, white lilies and cinnamon.
The leaves or the blossoms were soaked in oil for a long time and then pressed to soak out the essence. This then is mixed with many other ingredients.
They were so conscious about their body odor that they sometimes used lettuce, fruit or bread incense to help them prevent the odor that the warm climate in Egypt produced.
